The action research chosen as my project is: Can an afterschool program enhance the academic achievements needs of the students it serves. My project initially changed once I got others involved because now I'm part of a bigger action research plan to decide how we will target all the areas we are concerned now and how will we implement from start to finish. I think it a great idea for research and a need at my school but for this particular class I'd like to break it down to focusing on what is it we can do to focus on one of our needs. Presently my schools major concerns are:
Math TAKS scores
Science TAKS Scores
Economically disadvantaged sub groups-TAKS
Special Education sub group-TAKS
Bullying intervention, including theft
Alcohol & Drug abuse
College Readiness Skills
with that said I'd like to focus on what can be done in an afterschool program to help raise Science TAKs scores. I'd like to focus on this particular area and test to see if we can actually extend the classroom into an after school interactive lab experience with tutorials and hand-on experiences. This is all new to me and I would appreciate in thoughts and comments that could help my journey.
